Jesus Does Not Change

Monday morning arrived and Hector made it to work after traversing through rush hour traffic on the interstate. Calming himself down from the traffic, he sat down at his desk and started his computer. As usual he opened all the necessary programs and then his emails. Before reading anything he left his desk for his routine trip to the kitchen to get a breakfast snack and coffee to start his day. After working for the company for 10 years this had become his accepted routine. Arriving back at his desk he looked into his emails. His jaw dropped and he gasped. Suddenly wide awake and aware of everyone and everything around him, he stood up and looked around. It was then that he noticed that half of the people he worked with were gone. The email was a notice that there was restructuring going on and people were being laid off.

Scanning the room he saw other stunned looks, people in shock. The day went slowly and he cringed every time he received an email. Dazed and confused and very insecure he went home at the end of the day. For months he came back to work each day thinking it would be his last. Stories and rumors permeated the workplace. No-one truly knew what would happen. Employees who had been the pillars of the business were no longer there and the future was unknown.  Then more changes in management and new people were brought in. There was hope but fear because they were unknown. Each day he began to feel like he was starting a new job and the stress was mounting.

Every day before he left home he would pray for guidance and favor. Then one day in the midst of his struggle he prayed and asked God for relief from the stress and fear and God gave him a scripture.

Hebrews 13:8 (NKJV)

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

He thought, “Great, I know that but how does that help?”

He left the room and went to his wife. He told her what he heard and explained how he did not understand.

She said, “You are complaining about change. God is telling you that you should look to the one who does not change for your comfort. No matter what you are going through Jesus is still the same. The pressures you feel can be lightened by casting your burden unto Jesus for he cares for you. When you feel the stress, take a moment to focus on Jesus and what He has done for you. This will help you put into perspective what is happening around you.”

She opened her bible and showed him some scriptures:

Psalm 55:22 NASB

Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you;
He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.

Matthew 11:25-30 (NASB)

At that time Jesus said, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise  and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

He got on his knees and began to thank the Lord for showing him how to cope. Though his time of struggle and uncertainty were not completed he now had someone to lean on to calm his fears.
