Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
As she sat in the dark closet she remembered what her Sunday school teacher had told her, “Jesus is the light of the world”. She was going to test this statement out in this dark space. She reached down carefully and opened her bible to the Gospel of John where she had placed a bookmark. Suddenly a shaft of light came flowing out of her bible. She sat in utter amazement at the brightness of the light and a vision of Jesus appeared. He smiled as He showed her His nail scared hands and feet. It was true He is the light of the world. Suddenly there was a loud beeping noise that awakened her out of her slumber.
Shaking off the haziness of a good nights sleep she realized it had been a dream but it was true. Jesus is the light of the world, she thought. Following Jesus had opened her eyes to many obstacles that she was able to avoid in her life. She knew Jesus to be the light of the world and without Him she had walked in darkness unable to see where she was going. Picking up her bible she opened it to John 3:19 and read.
John 3:19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil.
She suddenly realized that “evil” is “live” spelled backwards. Floods of memories shot into her mind. She thought about the times when she could not see the light of God’s love because she had walked away from Him. She had only learned how to truly live after her eyes were opened to Jesus and what He had done for her.
As her mind wandered she was in her early twenties and had her precious baby boy. He was a cute little guy with curly red hair who was learning to crawl. She remembered being amused that his first attempts to master moving his body across the floor took him backwards. One day as she watched him, he slowly crept his way backwards until he found himself stuck under the couch with no place to go. She laughed at thought of it but then a revelation hit her.
If I have my eyes on God I have to move toward him to live. To walk backwards is evil; to turn away from God is also evil. Jesus is the light of life. To really live I must follow Him. When I walk toward the light of Jesus I leave the darkness behind me.
I hope you have enjoyed this little adventure. I will be back next week with more.
