Their apartment was dark and quiet. Dad and Mom were sleeping in their room, two brothers shared a bunk bed off the living room and their sister was in her room adjacent to her brothers connected by the living room. The boy’s kept their room door closed but the girl had hers open. All was right with the world and everyone was at peace.
It had been an adventure for the family, since Dad and Mom experienced their salvation just four years prior. Each child had in turn made their decisions to Me in their own time. Now they were on an adventure that included moving to a city and state they did not know so that Dad and Mom could attend bible school. It was a turbulent time with their family who did not understand and an adventurous time for the kids.
All three children had immediately made friends they would keep for the rest of their lives. They loved the atmosphere of the bible school campus. They could come and go as they pleased around campus and always had someone to hang out with.
After a full day the family was about to be tested. In the wee hours of the morning there came a knock at the door. No-one answered. The knock became a bang and no-one answered. The bang woke the oldest boy who immediately began to pray, “God please don’t let him in!” He prayed it over and over again as the bangs continued. Then the intruder began to kick the door and the boy prayed with more intensity. Then came the bang when the door gave way and the intruder had gained entrance to the apartment.
The final bang woke Mom and Dad who immediately jumped from bed. While Dad was looking for his glasses Mom jumped out of bed and could not contain her concern for the children, thinking one of the boys had fallen out of the bed. She ran out of the bedroom and saw the intruder standing at the broken doorway looking into the apartment. The look on his face was one of great fear. She screamed as loud as she could and the intruder turned and ran as fast as he could.
The intruder had run completely across campus quickly scaling fences and escaped into the darkness. The oldest son had risen to the occasion and prayed the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man and kept the intruder from entering the apartment and causing harm.
New King James Version (NKJV)
15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.
Living under the influence of the Holy Spirit can bring protection. In the above story the apartment door failed to keep the family safe but the prayer provided an invisible barrier that protected. The story you just read is from true events. Enjoy your week and I will be back next week with more.
